As Hypercom looks set to possibly join the ranks of other defunct POS manufacturers such as Thales, Lipman, Dione, and Sagem, many acquiring banks and payment system integrators are feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the power and influence wielded by Ingenico and VeriFone.
Existing distributors and resellers of POS solutions can now avail of a special package from PAX that includes the provision of free Software Development Kits, free EMV libraries, comprehensive technical support, and competitive commercial terms.
Commenting on recent POS industry consolidation, Mark O’Flynn, MD at Acquirer Solutions said: “Rumours have it within the industry that VeriFone may well divest its recently acquired Hypercom business in the USA to Ingenico, thus leading to questions about collusion on an international level between these two companies. Such a scenario would not be good for customers in the EMEA region”.
He continued: “In many markets banks are now facing a quasi-monopoly scenario, and most are mandating that a new reliable POS supplier be brought on board”.
The time is right for payment system integrators and banks to bring in an alternative POS brand, such as PAX, in order to spread the risk to their business as well as to keep incumbent supplier prices in check.
